January- New Beginnings
As I write this we are still in the Christmas season waiting to celebrate the Lord’s baptism which falls on Sunday, January 13th this year. May the joy of Christmas be with you throughout the year.
With the arrival of January and the new calendar year we have some new beginnings to explore. The students will start preparing for their first school Science Fair which is held in mid February. While grades 4 through 8 work on individual projects, the K to 3 classes work collectively on a presentation.
This year our topic is "Trees". In the Kindergarten curriculum there is a whole unit dedicated to the study of trees. The students will learn everything from identifying parts of a tree, to how we use trees for food and other products, to appreciating and taking care of trees as they are one of God’s gifts to us.
Another "beginning" for us is the new guided reading books that just arrived. The series is published by Nelson and it reflects a Catholic nature. The books are presented under the themes of God, Jesus, Prayer Scripture and Values to live by. We will be keeping a journal that your child can bring home from time to time to share as the books cannot go home.
Finally, Mrs. Jory and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all the gifts received before Christmas. Your kindness and generosity as well as your support thus far is greatly appreciated.
Thank you and God bless.
