December
Grade one
The grade ones have been busy getting ready for the Christmas concert. They have worked really hard. I know you will really enjoy their performance.
Over the holidays you may want to play some games with your child. Playing card or board games can be very educational for your child. Choose games suitable to the knowledge of numbers and skill of your child. Keep the rules simple. Games teach taking turns, following directions and cooperation as well as math and the game skill. Google simple card games for kids and you will find lots of games to try!
In January we are going to start our Spelling Homework Program. Please check for their duotangs.
I would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year. Enjoy the holidays.

HELPFUL INFORMATION
Read to and with your child every day. The more your child is exposed to language, the easier it will be for him/her to incorporate new skills in reading and writing in the classroom. Plan to spend 10 to 20 minutes each day – the rewards are priceless.
Celebrate your child’s success, no matter how small it may seem. This will keep your child enthusiastic about learning and proud of their work!
Absences – Attendance is important in first grade. What we do in class involves active participation and it is very important that your child attends every day. However, I do realize that sickness, family emergencies, and doctor’s appointments do occur. Your child’s school work will be saved for him/her to complete upon their return to school.
Dismissal Changes – If you know in advance, please send a note with your child.
Homework folder – Everyday your child will bring home his/her homework folder. Please try to check this each day. It may contain important information. It is very important that your child brings his/her homework folder back to school each day. This will help to create a routine and continue the communication between home and school. You may also use this as a way to communicate with me.
Snack – We will take a morning snack break each day. Please remember to send a small nutritious snack with your child daily. The children may bring water bottles to keep on their desk for use during the day. The water bottle must be one that if tipped over it will not spill.
