JANUARY
Happy New Year to all the parents and students of Grade Two! Hopefully everyone had a restful break and is ready to get back into the regular routine. January is a time to get down to work after the many festivities of December and Christmas. Thank you to the parents and students for the gifts and wishes you so kindly gave me.
The Christmas concert went well and the day of the concert was a fun and exciting time for the students. They enjoyed performing and showing the parents what they learned.
We are now studying higher numbers in addition and subtraction. We have started learning the facts for the number 12. Please review the facts to 11 and focus on memorization. Other concepts which we will be studying in Math are counting money and the calendar.
In Science we are studying the Food Groups. You could help your child by discussing which foods belong to which groups and also whether a food comes from a plant or animal. We will soon begin a new unit called Matter : Solids, Liquids, and Gases.
In Social Studies we have begun an interesting unit. We are learning about Indigenous life in Canada, long ago. We are finding out about the foods they ate, the homes they lived in, the clothes they wore, and how they travelled.
Please remember to sign your child’s bookbag sheet and that the bookbags are due every Tuesday and Friday. The sheet with suggestions to help your child as they read should be returned with the bag.
I would like to wish everyone a healthy and prosperous year in 2019.
